Initially I bought this pump because it was part of a good, integrated milk storage/feeding system (pump directly to bottles used to feed and store, etc. I used the pump for about three months before encountering issues - the pump stopped powering on. This has nothing to do with the valves as some reviews note, its electrical. However, when it "died" I called Philips AVENT customer service (their toll-free number was very easy to find online) and they overnight-shipped a new pump to me, no problem. Because of the timing (it was on a Saturday) the pump didn't come until Tuesday, during which time I borrowed a friend's Medela pump, which gave me a chance to compare. I was so glad to have my AVENT back, it is so much easier to clean and operate! The few issues people note about leaks can be avoided if you follow the instructions to assemble the pump body wet, however the design could be improved to make it stand upright on its own and to seal better to the bottles, the way the collars/caps do. The washable components are bigger than the Medela parts, but far easier to clean and SEE that you have them clean. The let-down petals are also much more comfortable and less prone to dripping when you finish pumping than the Medela flanges.
Overall, even with the failure and replacement I would recommend the AVENT pump (and its easy-to-use bottle system) over the Medela immediately. All pumps have some complaints, and I found this to be the best feasible. Its also far cheaper!

I purchased this Breast Pump when I had my second baby. With my fisrt baby breatfeeding didn't workout to well (wished I had invested in a pump to make breast feeding a lot easier at the time). While pregnant with my second baby I wanted to give breastfeeding a try and things are going well. I did some research on the Best Breast Pumps and found this Avent Pump on the top three list. I choose to go with this pump because it was cheaper then the other two on the top three list and I read a lot of great reviews. When I used this pump it was easy to use and it works great. The only proplem I had is, The bottles it comes with, when I used them to feed they leaked, I don't use them to feed with anymore. I enjoy using the pump because it gives me a break and it allows others to feed the baby. I do recommend this product to other moms, this pump does not make a lot of noise, it works well and it's a great price!!

First of all I have to say I have not used other pumps so I can not review the pumping ability of this pump. I gave 1 star out of the frustration that my precious breast milk have been wasted many times due to the pump tipping over. I understand that some people suggested that by paying attention of removing the top before putting down the bottles, the tipping over issue could be resolve. However, sometimes I try to pump both breasts first, and then put down one bottle so I can use one hand to squeeze the breast while the other hand holding the other pump over the breast in order to get the maximal amount of milk out of it. It is a lot to do to each time remove the top before putting down one bottle, pumping the other bottle, removing the other top then put down that bottle, and put the first top back on the pump the first bottle, etc. Just too much to do to resolve a simple problem. Why not just design the bottle to be bottom heavy so it not tipping over? For over $150 that people spend on the pump, this should be easily resolved and people should not have to worry about all these complicated actions to take before putting down a bottle.
BTW, the white disks that the bottles are supposed to click on and stand on top of, do not click very well with the bottles. They do not hold the bottles tight enough to keep them standing. So Philips did notice the tipping over problem, and they provided a solution that did not solve the problem.
Philips should really get on this issue. Otherwise I think a pump keeps wasting milk and keeps frustrating already very busy mom should be rated 1 star, no matter how good the pumping ability is.
